Blower Door Testing
Third-party air leakage testing for homes, by a Retrotec-certified tester.
How a blower door test works
A blower door fan is sealed into an exterior doorway and used to depressurize or pressurize the building to a set pressure difference, typically 50 pascals. The airflow needed to hold that pressure shows how leaky the building envelope is.
Results are commonly reported as CFM50 (airflow at 50 Pa) and ACH50 (air changes per hour at 50 Pa).
For Washington builders
The Washington State Energy Code requires air leakage testing of new homes. Bell Energy Solutions provides third-party blower door testing.
For homeowners
A blower door test measures how much air your home leaks.
